Pigs triumph over mayors in naming dispute
PIG breeds are likely to be among those used for road names on a new Royston development.
There was controversy when a suggestion to name the roads after former mayors was put forward by Royston Town Council and debated in both public and the pages of The Crow.
North Herts District Council has now decided roads on the Ivy Farm development, near Therfield Heath, should reflect its agricultural past and the probable names are Ivy, Sussex, Gloucester, Tamworth, Lincolnshire and Hereford.
Councillor Tom Brindley, portfolio holder for NHDC, said: “As the site was historically predominantly used for livestock rearing, a further suggestion was made that the road names should reflect this, together with the main road being named after the farm itself.
“The proposal has since been supported by the chairman of Royston Area Committee, and the Ivy Farm developer, Redrow Homes Ltd.
