THE introduction of parking attendants in Royston has been described as a "great success story". The attendants - employed by North Herts District Council - issued more than 2,500 parking tickets in Royston in the first year of the new parking enforcement scheme. Cllr Richard Thake, portfolio holder for planning and transport, said: "This is a great success story for the council. "We have set up a successful scheme that covers its costs and has endured months of parking chaos." The parking attendant scheme was introduced last January after police withdrew from employing parking wardens. The Royston Town Centre Forum has prepared a report on parking which has been submitted to the district council. Town centre manager Gerraint Burnell, said: "It's our best ideas for parking in Royston - suggestions for the district council to consider. "We thought it more constructive to put an integrated response to parking rather than respond with a knee-jerk reaction.
