UP TO 20 parked cars a day are making life a misery for people living in a village street, a woman has claimed.

Sally Cook, of Station Road, Foxton, says the cars, which she believes belong to commuters using Foxton railway station, are blocking drains and creating a dangerous situation for residents of the area.

She said: "I lived here for a long time and the situation is getting worse and worse. The cars are parking everywhere now, down Station Road and also round into Hall Close.

"We've had a lot of problems with the drains this winter, but the council can't get down here to clean them so nothing is done. And then there are safety concerns too, it's making it difficult to cross the road.

"We don't want there to be an accident down here before something is done," she said.

Mrs Cook got in touch with The Crow after reading our story about parking problems experienced by residents of Garden Walk, Royston.

They too are worried for their safety because of vehicles left in the area, particularly on Saturdays.

"They [the residents of Garden Walk] only have to put up with it one day a week, we have it every day," added Mrs Cook.

Cllr Susan van de Ven, county councillor for Foxton, said she has spoken to Mrs Cook about the issues in Station Road.

The councillor has recently helped set up a rail users group for people who travel from Foxton, Shepreth, and Meldreth stations, and said: "I've spoken to First Capital Connect and the Highways department about this, and had a positive response from both.

"There are a number of options available which will we can investigate. I don't think double yellow lines would be appropriate, as they would just penalise residents too, but we may be able to look at an hours restricted parking each day to stop people stopping off there for long periods," she said.

Cllr Van de Ven continued: "Parking is a big issue at all three stations and hopefully the three villages involved can work together to come up with a suitable solution.
