Barrington Parish Council is holding two public meetings to discuss housing plans they feel will change the shape of the village.

Building materials giant CEMEX is applying for outline planning permission to redevelop its factory at Barrington quarry into a housing development comprising of approximately 220 homes.

The parish council believe there is no demand for additional housing in Barrington, but are encouraging as many people as possible to come along to the village hall to express their views.

The meetings are tonight at 7.30pm and Saturday at 10am.

An application for 17 homes on land to the rear of Station Road in Ashwell is set to go before the North Herts District Council planning committee on Wednesday at 7.30pm.

The meeting has been moved from the Council Chamber to the larger space at the Icknield Centre in Letchworth.

Council officers have recommended for the application to be refused for reasons including inadequate site access from Green Lane.
