PANCAKES flew through the air on Saturday in Royston as teams took part in an annual charity race.

Frying pans were wielded by eight teams who took to the Memorial Gardens looking to batter each others’ times

A team of chefs from Palazzo Restaurant won for the third year in a row but it was a close call, pipping Victory is Ours to the post by 0.04 seconds.

The race raised over 300 for the cHALLenge campaign which hopes to raise enough money for a new hall for St John the Baptist.

Julia Garfit, chairman of the fundraising committee, said: “It was very successful.

“The winners were chefs from Palazzo for the third year running... the runners up were a team from Victoria Avenue called Victory is Ours.

“They were runners up last year it was a very close finish so I think they will be back next year to secure a victory.”

The race came hot on the heels of a performance of the BB Band which raised 320 for the cause last Wednesday.

A special performance from vocal harmony group Shannon Express will take place at the church for cHALLenge on March 17, tickets are 8.
