A 54-year-old paedophile found in possession of child sex abuse images and videos in Royston was yesterday given a suspended sentence.

Shaun Higlett – formerly of Royston, but now of Downham Market in Norfolk – admitted possessing child porn videos and images in Royston between April 2009 and March 2016.

And at Cambridge Crown Court yesterday, Recorder Timothy Green imposed a 12-month prison term, suspended for two years, and ordered Higlett to complete 240 hours of unpaid work.

Higlett had six images and four movies listed as ‘category A’ child pornography – considered the most extreme – as well as three images and eight films in category B. He furthermore had two images and two videos in category C.

He pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing indecent images of children when he appeared before Stevenage magistrates on February 8.

Recorder Green yesterday ordered him to be subject to a 24-month supervision order, as well as a 10-year sexual harm prevention order – restricting his use of the internet.

Higlett will also have to sign the sex offenders register for the same period.
