THE outlook is bright for some outstanding students after they received awards from weatherman Simon King.
Simon, a BBC weatherman who grew up in Royston, returned to The Meridian School, where he is a former pupil, to present the accolades at the school’s annual prize-giving evening.
Among the many winners, outstanding performance at GCSE went to Ben Batchelor, with Mel Coates receiving the same award for top A-Level performance.
Following presentation of awards Simon spoke to the audience about the moment when he, as a schoolboy, decided that he wanted to be a weatherman – and the hurdles encountered in realising such an ambition.
Dr Michael Firth, head teacher at the Meridian School, said: “It was a particular pleasure to welcome Simon back to Meridian. What he had to say connected very well with us all. I am sure that I speak for everyone there this was a special evening for Meridian and the town.”
