ORWELL has been awarded a regional category prize in the 2006-07 Calor Village of the Year for England competition.
The village beat off seven others to be awarded the environment category prize after submitting a written entry and receiving a two-hour visit by competition judges.
Parish councillor Katie Reid put together Orwell's bid for the competition along with Marilyn Laughton.
She said: "We were pleased to win the environment category.
"We showed the judges around the village so they could see what we already do for the environment."
Orwell representatives will be presented with a £500 prize and a certificate at an awards event to take place on September 4.
