Organisers at Imperial War Museum Duxford is offering advice to visitors ahead of a weekend show which is expected to cause congestion.

The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum’s Avro Lancaster will be touching down at The Duxford Air Show on Sunday, with unprecedented levels of advance tickets sales.

Only a small number of tickets will be available for sale on the day, and organisers expect to sell out. There are still plenty of tickets available for tomorrow’s show, and visitors can purchase these on the gate in the usual way.

Tomorrow’s flying display includes the awesome spectacle of the Avro Vulcan, The Great War Display team, and more than 40 other classic and modern aircraft taking to the skies.

Those not visiting the air show this weekend are advised to avoid the A505 at IWM Duxford and Junction 10 of the M11 both tomorrow and Sunday.

A spokesman for IWM Duxford said: “We are working closely with the police, Highways Agency and the AA to ensure our visitors are able to arrive and park as quickly as possible, and that congestion on the surrounding roads is kept to a minimum. In particular, we have expanded our traffic management plans specifically to accommodate the larger numbers of visitors expected at IWM Duxford on Sunday, September 14.

“As part of these plans we are offering the following guidance to visitors. We still have plenty of tickets available for Saturday 13 September; visitors can purchase these on the gate in the usual way.

“Please ensure that you leave plenty of time to complete your journey. We encourage visitors to car share, if possible, rather than travelling separately. Air show car parks are available as normal. Please follow the yellow signs.

“Alternatively, we have a courtesy bus service running from Cambridge Station, picking up at Trumpington Park and Ride. It is also possible to take the train to Whittlesford Parkway station; the museum is a 15 minute walk from the station.

“If you have already bought your tickets for Sunday and plan to travel by car we strongly recommend getting to IWM Duxford as early as possible. Gates open at 8am.

“On arrival please follow the yellow signs to the Advance Ticket Holders’ car parks. These car parks are reserved exclusively for advance ticket holders. Once in the car park please follow the instructions of our staff, who are there to help you complete your journey as quickly and smoothly as possible.
