ALAN Putz, director of A to Z Flooring and Carpets in Royston has received this month's Barclays Business Personality Award. Having worked in the industry for nearly 20 years, Alan took the plunge and set up his own business 12 months ago. Working from a two-storey premises in Priory Lane, Alan provides a whole range of domestic and contract flooring from wood and ceramics to carpets and vinyls. In addition, the company also has an extensive range of exclusive furniture on the first-floor which differentiates them from major retail outlets. Bucking the economic trend in retail, the company has seen sales grow dramatically over the last 12 months. Alan believes this is down to the personal service that he provides and the responsibility and pride that comes with running your own business. Andy Webb, local business manager at Barclays' Royston branch, said: "It's good to see a successful and local business setting up in the town.
