Crooks planning to raid a Royston house were left empty-handed when the homeowner arrived back during the burglary.

The culprits entered the house by forcing open a door between about 12pm and 1pm yesterday in Newmarket Road.

A search of an upstairs bedroom was carried out before they were then disturbed by the homeowner arriving back. They are believed to have left through a window and nothing is thought to have been taken.

The incident follows three other burglaries in the town on Tuesday.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police on 101.
