THE number of swine flu cases in Hertfordshire is decreasing.

NHS Hertfordshire has seen the number of visitors to its antiviral collection points drop from 200 - 300 a day to about 130 a day.

Dr Jane Halpin, director of public health for NHS Hertfordshire said: "In common with the rest of England, over the past week we have seen a drop in the number of people with swine flu symptoms in Hertfordshire.

"When the national pandemic flu service first opened, our two initial antiviral collection points in Watford and Welwyn Garden City were seeing 200-300 visits per day. This number has now dropped to around 130 visits per day."

Because of this decrease in demand, from today (Monday 10 August), the Watford and Welwyn Garden City collection points will be open from 9.30am - 7.30pm Monday to Friday, and 10am - 4pm Saturday and Sunday.

The opening hours of the Hertford collection point remain 10am - 4pm, Monday to Friday. Opening hours of all collection points are regularly reviewed to match demand.

Dr Halpin added: "We are seeing fewer cases of swine flu which is good news, but our planning continues and we are now looking ahead to the next probable wave of swine flu in the autumn.
