THE Conservatives have gained an extra seat in Palace ward following the North Herts district council elections.
Paul Grimes is the man who will be taking over from Liberal Democrat councillor Liz Beardwell, who resigned her position last month.
Two seats were available in Palace ward, and it was another Lib Dem, Cllr Rob Inwood, who retained the second one, picking up 1,102 votes. Mr Grimes received 943, ahead of another Tory candidate, Bob Smith, who got 904.
Lib Dem John Ledden got 849 votes, while Labour candidates Vaughan West and Les Baker polled 326 and 203 respectively, ahead of the two Green Party candidates, Peter Grove (151), and Matt King (149).
Turn out in Palace ward was the lowest in Royston at 63.96 per cent.
