The Hospice@Home team serving Stevenage and North Herts can now eat up the miles thanks to a new recruit – one that promises to be hard-working and reliable, looks good and is well placed to meet the needs of patients.

The latest addition to the strength at the Garden House Hospice service is a brand new Nissan Note car which is the result of a generous anonymous donation to the Letchworth-based hospice team which provides services across Stevenage and North Herts.

The new vehicle hit the road in March and has already clocked up more than 5,000 miles.

Before it arrived nurses used their own cars, which meant equipment was constantly being loaded and unloaded.

Now the dedicated vehicle can be kitted out with a wide range of equipment.

Hospice@Home head Ruth Frost said: “The team provides a vital service and this car is essential to that service.

“They deliver full hands-on nursing care to patients in their own homes as well as practical and psychological support to the patient and their family.

“We can now be more flexible. If the team receive a second call when already out, one nurse can stay and the other can drive on to another patient.

“In the past this would have meant delays because of driving restrictions associated with private vehicles.”
