The new chairman of Royston and District Chamber of Commerce says her number one priority is to unite the town’s businesses.
Julia Brooks, who works as account director for C4B Media in Baldock Street, has taken over the role from chartered accountant Rupert Matthews, founder of accountancy firm Fourways.
Julia, who lives in Fowlmere, said she aims to host a range of events to encourage people to shop locally, and to promote what’s going on in the area during her time as chairman.
She also hopes to support businesses in local villages, as well as the town itself and the industrial area.
The account director, who has worked with businesses in Royston for more than 10 years, said: “Rupert Matthews has done a really good job over the past few years as chair.
“I’ve got a fantastic committee that supports me.
“While I am chair, the work done by the chamber is a team effort and not down to one person.”
Before starting digital marketing company C4B Media, Julia ran a management development consultancy and gained an MBA from the Open University.
She set up C4B Media to provide affordable marketing services to business owners who need marketing but couldn’t hire full time staff to do it.
Former chairman Rupert was pleased to hear the good news about Julia’s appointment.
He said: “Julia is a dynamic individual who I have known for a long time.
“She is passionate about business and the local area and I’m sure that she will breathe new life into the chamber like a friendly dragon.”
The Chamber of Commerce runs a Coffee and Connect event on the first Friday of the month between 10am and 11.30am at Palazzo in Kneesworth Street.
Members include hallmark high street businesses such as Ad Hoc Bar and Kitchen, So Gifted, M-Viron and solicitors Curwens. Membership costs £25 for any business, regardless of size.
