A THIRD application to redevelop a derelict former railway station in Buntingford is to be submitted to East Herts Council.

The applicant, Portugal-based Foxbay, proposes to build nine-10 two-bedroom houses with allocated parking on the site at Aspenden Road after its second application to convert the old station house was refused.

The second proposal, which was submitted in October, to demolish two industrial buildings to make way for two blocks of flats and an underground car park was considered 'overdevelopment' and 'out of character' with the surrounding buildings, by council officers at East Herts Council's development and control committee meeting.

Architect Ian Knowles, of Sharman Knowles, in Royston, said: "We were never told flats were completely unacceptable on the site until the last application. We were led on.

"Although our client feel flats are the best option, we now have a new scheme prepared for houses on the site, which would be fairly modern with gables."

Mr Knowles is currently in negotiations with planning officers at EHDC and will be submitting a third application soon.
