FORMER Crow photographer Neville Chuck is set to launch a book on the history of Cottered.

The book will be launched tomorrow evening (Friday) and will help raise cash for the Friends of Cottered Church.

Neville has been working on the book for the past two years after retiring from The Crow.

He said it was a project he had been planning for years due to his deep interest in local history.

And he wanted to put to some use the stories he had collected when working as a village correspondent for The Crow before joining the newspaper as a reporter in 1968.

"It's really been a labour of love," said Neville. "There are a lot of stories about the village and it would have been a shame to see them lost.

Some of the pieces in the book, Glimpses of Cottered, came after the village had two evenings when residents exchanged memories.

Neville got the support of the Friend of Cottered Church when he originally suggested the idea for the book.

He has been organist, choirmaster and a church warden at the church for many years.

There are more than 170 photographs in the book - some of which come from the Crow archive and others loaned by residents and show the changing character of the village.

The book is available from Neville on 01763 281245 and he will signing copies at Cottered's village day on June 25.

- Glimpses of Cottered costs £9.95.
