A snack retailer has plunged into administration less than a month after breaking advertising rules.

An official notice in the public record yesterday [November 5] revealed Snackverse Limited appointed administrators on Monday [November 2].

The firm operates a monthly subscription service where customers receive boxes containing snacks sourced from different countries.

Their website says the smallest box containing '5+' unique snacks costs £7.99, the standard box with '10+' snacks and a drink is £13.99 and the premium box with '20+' snacks and 1+' drinks is £23.99.

In May the Advertising Standards Authority [ASA] ruled they made 'misleading claims' about previous boxes on their website.

They said a customer complained they hadn't received themed snack boxes from the countries described and Snackverse Limited were unable to prove subscribers did.

The firm were also deemed to have broken promotional marketing rules last month [October 9].

The ASA said their website's 50% off offer was accompanied by a countdown which 'and counts down again after the time has run out'.

They said they contacted the firm about this but didn't receive 'assurance they would amend their website'.

The ASA then published the breach's details to their website and said they'll remain there until Snackverse Limited 'removed or amended the claims'.

The countdown was still live on their website this morning [November 5].

Snackverse Limited has more than 35,000 followers on Instagram and has been endorsed by multiple food influencers who have tried their boxes.

Kieran Bourne of Cromwell & Co Insolvency Practitioners has been appointed administrator and the future of the company is unclear.
