Following on from their successful win at a regional students, four bright brothers who are all students at Roysia Middle School demonstrated their science and technology skills at the UK and Ireland final of the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s First Lego League tournament at Loughborough University.

More than 1,000 pupils aged between nine and 16 years took part and the Dalton BRobots Team were thrilled to win first prize in the Robots section.

The Borell brothers Luis, aged nine, 11-year-old Joan and 13-year-old twins Quim & Albert took their name from the legendary Wild West outlaw characters the Dalton Brothers, immortalised in Lucky Luke comic book adventures and in movies.

The teams who competed were all from schools and each team had to design and programme a Lego Mindstorms robot and then use it to solve problems and tasks.

They were then judged on their ability to build and programme the robot, their presentation and research skills and how well they co-operated with each other and their competitors.

The IET runs competitions like the First Lego League in order to show young people the merits of engineering.

Headteacher Zoe Linington said: “We are immensely proud of their achievement and look forward to developing their STEM skills further.”
