HUNDREDS of people are expected to enjoy a week of musical entertainment in Ashwell from Saturday.

The Ashwell Music Festival is an annual event that brings choirs, opera, and performers to St Mary's church, Ashwell.

This year's programme will have an appeal for those who usually support the festival, as well as inspiring interest from those who are perhaps new to it.

A new element has been added to the festival encompassing a folk/country evening which will be held at the Bushel & Strike, and a performance by the stage school in the village hall.

The programme will be putting the focus on voice, which is also a new theme for this year, demonstrating the vocal talents of both young and older people, with the Cantate Youth Choir and the Hatstand Opera Company.

Gaby Manoukian, who used to live in Odsey, will join Bernard Perkins to sing Serenade for a Summer Evening.

The festival will begin on Saturday evening and run until Sunday May 27.

Some performances will have an entrance fee and these will be clearly marked in the programme/application forms which are available from Eileen ten Hove on 01462 742746.
