MP Oliver Heald has welcomed a crackdown on crime and ticketless travel by rail operator First Capital Connect.
Mr Heald met with the company's managing director Elaine Holt and commerical director Hugh Clancy to discuss the latest moves.
They spoke about the effects that the introduction of automatic gates at Royston and other stations, and safety and security measures have had on the railways.
Since First Capital Connect took over the franchise overall crime has been reduced by 15 per cent, in particular anti-social behaviour which has dropped by 44 per cent on trains and at stations.
Mr Heald, the MP for North-east Herts, said: "I welcome this improved attention to stopping crime and ticketless travel.
"Nothing is more annoying to genuine customers than anti- social behaviour and abuse of the system."
Automatic gates installed at Royston and other stations have increased revenue by 7 per cent highlighting the likely level of abuse previously.
