ROYSTON MP Oliver Heald has received a letter of thanks after lending support to the victims of the Japanese earthquake.

Mr Heald wrote to the ambassador for Japan Keiichi Hayashi shortly after the tragedy struck the east coast of the Asian nation, and received a letter back last week.

“I wrote to the Ambassador, putting forward the concerns of local people and their feelings of sympathy and solidarity at this dreadful crisis,” said Mr Heald.

“I am pleased that he wrote such a nice letter in response and I know that constituents will want to know our thoughts have been expressed to the Japanese people.”

The ambassador’s letter read: “The ambassador is grateful to Oliver for taking the time to express his generous concern for the victims of the tragedy and for Mr Hayashi’s country.”
