EMPLOYERS and apprentices in Crow country are being encouraged to put themselves forward for the sixth annual apprenticeship awards.

Royston MP Oliver Heald is backing the scheme, which is designed to recognise and reward outstanding apprentices and companies that provide a supportive working environment.

Mr Heald said: "Apprenticeships are vital to our economy and give young people the opportunity to learn important skills in a workplace setting.

"I hope that employers and apprentices in my constituency will put themselves forward for the Learning and Skills Council Annual Apprenticeship Awards."

Applications can be made through www.apprenticeships.org.uk/awards.

The closing date for applications is Friday, February 27.
