A MOTORIST from Royston who was wrongly clamped almost six months ago has finally had the fine rescinded – and earned a bonus.

Peter Yoxall found his car being clamped as he walked out of Cineworld in Stevenage Leisure Park on September 18, despite there being no time restrictions on parking as long as the facilities are being used.

His appeals against his £125 fine had fallen on deaf ears until December when he was promised a refund, only for clampers Platinum Security to say his cheque was lost in the Christmas post.

Last week he finally received the total amount, plus a £75 good will gesture.

Mr Yoxall, 43, said: “This is a satisfactory ending to the whole thing, although it shouldn’t have happened in the first place.

“I was on the phone leaving messages every week since it happened and I am glad they have finally seen sense.

“I had been in the Cinema and in McDonald’s, had shown the clamper my tickets, but he was having none of it. He demanded that I withdraw £125 from the cash point and give it to him. I had no option at the time so I did.”

Garden Walk resident Mr Yoxall, who volunteers at the Duxford Imperial War Museum, was only making his second car journey since retaking his driving test after suffering his latest fourth stroke in 2006.

This week he celebrated receiving his cheque by visiting the cinema for the first time since the incident, and said that Platinum Security’s clamping signs had been taken down.

“I went to see Unknown last week, and it was pretty good,” he said. “It was a far more relaxing experience knowing there was no chance of it happening again.”
