A Hertfordshire firefighter has been summoned to court to answer the charge of death by careless driving – exactly one year after a pedestrian lost his life after a collision with a fire engine in Royston.
On January 18 last year Mitchell Bailey died when a fire engine on an emergency call crashed at the Old North Road roundabout. The 58-year-old lived in Royston and was a school governor.
The driver of the fire engine – who is a 47-year-old man but has not been identified at this stage due to a charge not being brought – has been summoned to Stevenage Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, February 7, under the charge of death by careless driving.
