ORGANISERS hope that more than 300 women will be taking part in this year's Royston Pink Ribbon run/walk on Therfield Heath. The event, organised by Royston Runners, last year raised more than £3,000 for Cancer Research. Maurice Hill, one of the organisers, said this year's event would be over a three-mile course on Sunday, June 11. "If you have always wanted to try running, this is the distance where to start," said Mr Hill. One competitor will be Michaela Huffer. She will be aiming to complete one mile of the course after being diagnosed with a spinal tumour last September and being told she would not walk again. She had an operation lasting 14 hours and a course of radiotherapy and is now training for the event. Michaela, the owner of Bumpkins Day Care Nursery, in Whaddon, the winner of last year's Crow Business of the Year award, said: "The Pink Ribbon walk is for everyone, no matter what their level of fitness. "I'm going to be last so everyone else knows they are safe to enter. If I can manage to try and walk the race, I'm sure everyone else can," she said. Last year, Michaela completed the Flora London Marathon in five-and-a-half hours after training with Mr Hill and other members of Royston Runners. The organisers are appealing to businesses to consider entering a team and on the day there will be a prize for the best pink outfit and for the most successful fund-raising. - For more details, call Michaela Huffer on 01223 208929 or you can visit the website at pinkribbonrunwalk.co.uk
