IT WAS the drive to work that inspired Michael Curtis to run the London Marathon for a spinal injury charity.

Accountant Michael, of Skylark Place, Royston, will be running the marathon to raise money for Aspire, a charity which supports people affected by spinal cord injuries, and has set himself a fund-raising target of 1,750.

He said: "I've been wanting to do a marathon for some time as I run regularly.

"I drive past Aspire regularly on my way to and from work, so I thought it would be a great charity to support.

"Spinal cord injuries could happen to anyone at any time, so their work is very important."

Michael has done several half-marathons, and the Great North Run, in preparation for the marathon itself, on April 26.

"I would like to do the course in less than four hours, but I don't think the time is that important in the London marathon, it's more about enjoying the day and raising a good amount of money," he said.

Andrew Ogierman, Aspire's community and events fundraiser, said: "Michael's efforts will help change the lives of those who, through their spinal cord injury, may never run or walk again.

"Every 1 raised really will help to make a difference to our work and improve the lives of people with spinal cord injury."
