More than 130 people attended the biennial Memorial Service for the 398th Bomb Group and the 55th Fighter Group at their respective memorials near The Woodman Inn in Nuthampstead.
About 30 Americans came to the service and the opening of the Hunter Building at the Nuthampstead Airfield Museum.
The building was named after the commanding officer of the 398th who was killed January, 23, 1945 on a mission to Germany.
Hunter’s daughter, grandson, granddaughter and great granddaughter were in attendance for the opening to honour the late officer.
A six day packed itinerary included the Air Show at Imperial War Museum Duxford, and a visit to the code breaking centre at Bletchley Park in Milton Keynes. The newly opened Nuthampstead Airfield Museum will be open the second and last Sundays of each month until September, between 10am and 4pm.
