Meldreth pupils question Greater Cambridge Partnership about cycle link

A trio of Meldreth pupils has met the Greater Cambridge Partnership Board, to promote the Melbourn to Royston cycle/walking link.
Meldreth Primary School junior travel ambassadors, Yunus and Iris Bostanci and Alfie Richardson, all submitted formal questions to the board.
Yunus Bostanci asked: “Do you want me to grow up being a cyclist and active commuter, or do you want me to grow up getting in the habit of driving everywhere?”
Iris Bostanci’s question was: “How old do you think I will be by the time the Melbourn to Royston bike path is finished?
Alfie Richardson asked: “What ideas do you have for getting children involved in making decisions about improving cycle links between villages?”

The CPB voted in favour of including the Melbourn-Royston link in the Greenways project. The next step will be a public consultation in the new year.
Royston Town Council, North Herts District Council and Hertfordshire County Council have all made financial contributions or pledges to the bridge across the A505, as have local businesses.

Greater Cambridge Partnership funding comes from central government. It is specifically designed to facilitate a shift to public and sustainable transport in South Cambs and Cambridges, where the population is rapidly growing, to prevent gridlock congestion.
