HAVING entertained his daughters with bedtime stories of Alex the car, author Douglas Rumney is hoping to take his characters to a wider audience.

Mr Rumney, of Whitecroft Road, Meldreth, has published his second children's book, Alex Goes to School, which tells the story of the main character's first day at driving school.

He said: "When my children came along I was amazed at the standard of children's books.

"However, I soon found that a lot of the titles were quite hard for adults to read, so I wanted to create something which could be enjoyed by parents and children alike.

"So we started making up stories for the girls, and Alex was born."

With a passion for cars, they were always going to be an obvious topic for Mr Rumney's books.

"I decided to depict Alex as a mini because it's a car that everyone knows and can relate to," he said.

"In my head I have plans to write 15 stories, following Alex on a seaside holiday and introducing more characters, but we'll have to see how this book goes first."
