Melbourn salon staff tackle tandem skydive for The MindEd Trust

Three daredevil Melbourn hair stylists are gearing up to do a tandem skydive for a local mental health charity that ‘protects our beautiful young people’ as they celebrate their salon’s 10th birthday.
Alison Hopwood, Emma Watters and Olivia Willis – who are all part of the team at Third Generation in the High Street – wanted to raise money for a local good cause.
And they quickly set their sights on The MindEd Trust, which was set up in memory of Meldreth teenager Edward Mallen after he tragically took his own life last year.
Salon owner Alison said: “Many of our clients and family and friends knew and had good connections with Ed and his family.
“Steve Mallen, Edward’s father, is working tirelessly with the media and our government to put changes into place to help protect our beautiful young people.
“We talk and listen to clients all day, every day, and if we can spread the news of this amazing charity and guide any youngster in the right direction and away from doing something life threatening, then a part of our job is done.
“The skydive is a massive thing – we are all scared silly.”
Steve, who chairs the trust, said he is honoured that the team are tackling such a brave venture on Saturday at Chatteris Airfield to raise money for the cause.
He said: “Over the past year, the people of Crow country have shown phenomenal support to The MindEd Trust with events large and small.
“This reflects the terrible tragedy which befell my family and mental health issues in our community, especially among young people.
“The Third Generation team are both incredibly brave and extremely kind to be skydiving on behalf of the trust.
“With all the monies raised being recycled back into our schools and the local community, Alison, Emma and Olivia will be helping all young people in our area. Well done to the Third Generation team.”
