AN ENGINEER has won through to the next round of BBC2’s The Great British Bake Off with his pies and tarts.

Rob Smart, who lives in Melbourn, baked an apple and pear pie with thyme, a custard tart, and a mushroom filo pie on Tuesday’s show.

Rob likes to forage for mushrooms, but calls it an unforgiving pastime. “You get it wrong and you can pay a hell of a price. The opportunity to kill yourself is quite good – some mushrooms you eat them and there is no cure,” he said. For his pie, he used some shop bought ones.

Tune in to BBC2 at 8pm on Tuesday to see Rob try his hand at biscuits.
