Melbourn Community Hub transformed for Spooky Spectacular Festival

The scary series came about as a result of a team effort by the hub committee and Melbourn Amateur Dramatics Society, set up by the village’s Paul and Donna Sleight in order to bring entertainment, fun and regular social events to residents of Melbourn, Meldreth and surrounding areas.

Jeannie Seers – who is a director of the hub and is on the events team – told the Crow: “MADS member Jayne Downes wanted to put on a Ghost Walk – so we put our ideas together to appeal to all age ranges for Halloween, and that’s how the three events came about.

“On Saturday, We had the party for adults, that went extremely well.

“Yesterday we had two ghost walks, the children went on their one first, and then there was another for adults. Tomorrow we’ve got a children’s party – everything has been so popular, they all sold out.

“We are thrilled with the amount of effort that has been made, and I can’t thank everyone who has been involved with it enough.

“Events we are running are a collaboration with the community, we are giving people the opportunity to come forward with ideas, and see how we can bring people together.”

The next event the committee has organised at the hub in High Street is a Christmas Craft Fair, with the Yap and Yarn group on Sunday from 12 noon until 4pm. There will be 16 stalls of different Christmas crafts and goodies, and mulled wine and mince pies will be on offer.

Proceeds will go to Meldreth mental health charity The MindEd Trust, The Nicola Emmerson Trust – set up after the death of a 20-year-old from Royston – and the hub.
