A CHURCHYARD will be given a spring clean by villagers this weekend.

The yard in Meeting Lane, Melbourn, is owned by Melbourn United Reformed Church, but has become overgrown recently.

So the church has set up a working party of volunteers, who will be tidying up the site on Saturday.

Cllr Mike Linnette, from Melbourn Parish Council, will be part of the group, and is appealing for other villagers to come and lend a hand.

He said: "The yard is part of Melbourn's heritage, but the church has not had the people or the money to keep it tidy.

"It would be a shame to leave it in its current state, as there are some lovely old gravestones in there which are difficult to get to at the moment."

The tidy-up begins at 9am.

Volunteers should bring their own tools and a packed lunch.
