ROYSTON town mayor Cllr Martin Beaver has revealed some of the prestigious items up for grabs at this year’s charity auction.

ROYSTON town mayor Cllr Martin Beaver has revealed some of the prestigious items up for grabs at his charity auction.

The pick of the bunch is a framed Bobby Moore t-shirt, which was kindly donated by the England World Cup winning captain’s widow Stephanie.

The shirt is one of just 544 made, which marks the number of appearances Moore made for West Ham United.

To make the item more special, it is the sixth one issued – the number Moore wore on the back of his shirt.

Cllr Beaver said: “It’s a fantastic item, and one that is highly sought after. Those that are lucky enough to get hold of these do not let them go easily, and they are not available online.

“It’s a great boon for us to have the sixth one too. I’m guessing this one and the number 66 would be two of the most valuable, for obvious reasons.

“The highest bid for this item currently stands at £520, so we are after serious bidders to help a great cause.”

Money raised from the auction will go towards the mayor’s three charities for the year, The Bobby Moore Cancer Fund, The Royston branch of the Royal British Legion, and the Royston community chest.

Bids can be made right up until the winners are announced at the remembrance Sunday gathering at the British Legion’s headquarters on November 14.

Other prizes on offer include a miniature cricket bat that has been in Cllr Beaver’s possession for 40 years, and is signed by cricketers such as Geoffrey Boycott, Alan Knott, Derek Underwood and Keith Fletcher.

“My parent’s did some work with England’s Keith Fletcher around 40 years ago, and as a thank you he organised for this bat to be signed. Its in pristine condition after all this time,” said Cllr Beaver.

A signed replica England shirt from the recent international friendly against Hungary is also available. It includes signatures from Wayne Rooney, Stephen Gerrard and Jack Wilshere.

A football signed by the Stevenage team that played the club’s first game in the football league is on offer, as is another Bobby Moore t-shirt and mug.

To bid for any of these items, drop a note into the town hall containing your name, contact details, item bid for and bid in pounds, or email all the details to Martin at mjb4brinkley@hotmail.com.
