ROYSTON'S new mayor Councillor Peter Lill sampled the delights of home-baking and home-grown produce on Saturday.

He was a guest as the Royston Country Market celebrated its 45th anniversary.

The stall in the Corn Exchange was originally set-up by the Royston WI.

In those days it had a turn-over of £250-a-week.

Royston Country Market is a local non-profit making co-operative, which is run on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The change in title came about three years ago when the Federation of Women's Institutes withdrew its name to protect its charitable status.

It is looking for new members who have the skills to produce baked goods, preserves, garden produce or craft items.
