Residents at a Meldreth care home specialising in dementia have followed up their charity walk last year with another, and are hoping to smash their previous target.

Last year Maycroft care home raised more than £1,600 for Alzheimer’s Research UK, gaining them recognition and a letter from the House of Commons.

And this year’s target is to go over £2,000 for which they are optimistic with sponsor money pour in.

Manager Lynn Ward said: “Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the walk, taking off for the two kilometres around the village with zimmer frames and wheelchairs accompanied by staff, relatives, pets, villagers and this year the residents of Orchard Manor School also joined us. The weather was perfect and afterwards there was a huge gathering under our horse chestnut tree for refreshments.”

Residents are currently all looking forward to the opening of phase one of Maycroft’s new facilities and care home which will open this autumn.
