A MARKET organiser has been fined £1,000 for illegal advertising, it emerged this week.

The prosecution was taken out after South Cambridgeshire District Council received a complaint from a resident over advertising for Bassingbourn's Sunday market.

The advertising was placed around the site in Bassingbourn and along the A1198.

Market organiser Joe Remblance, of The Boulevard, Meldreth, was found guilty is his absence at Cambridge Magistrates' Court.

He was also ordered to pay £100 costs.

The prosecution was under the Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisements) Regulations.

Cllr Nick Wright, the council's portfolio holder for development services, said the case showed "the seriousness of the offence".

He said that in south Cambridgeshire there was a "stricter degree of advertisement control" than may apply elsewhere.

He added the controls were in place to "conserve the visual attractiveness of the district".
