A former Royston mayor has been nominated by the UK Independence Party as a prospective member of the European Parliament.
Mark Hughes, 51, will stand at the European elections due to take place in May.
The financial advisor, who served as Mayor of Royston in 1990 and is a former chairman of North Herts District Council, switched from the Conservatives to UKIP in December 2012.
He was a candidate for the Royston seat in last year’s Hertfordshire County Council elections, but lost out to Fiona Hill.
