THREE Royston Runners will be taking part in the New York marathon.

Paul Haynes, Alan Watson, and his daughter, Libby Watson, will all be running the marathon on November 4.

Paul is raising money for children with leukaemia, while Alan and Libby are supporting Macmillan cancer support.

Paul said: "I ran in the London marathon earlier this year, so I know what's coming. If anything it's been a bit more daunting than the first because you know the work that's involved.

"I've been to New York before and it's a great place so I'm really looking forward to going back. You get to run through all the boroughs of the city so it should be quite an experience."

Alan and Libby are running for Macmillan cancer support, a charity which has touched their lives on two occasions.

"In October last year my father-in-law was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer," said Alan.

"He moved in with us and my wife gave up work to care for him. The Macmillan nurses provided us with fantastic practical support throughout his illness."

He died in December last year.

"They have also been a great help to my nephew, Robert, who has terminal bowel cancer.

"Robert is brain damaged, and has lived in a residential home all his life. Because of the Macmillan nurses, he has been able to stay in this home and spend his final days in familiar surroundings," he added.
