A driver who was in a critical condition following a crash on the A505 near Royston on Sunday has died.

Alessandro Zarrelli – of Ffordd Sain Ffwyst, Llanfoist, Abergavenny – was driving his blue Mini One from Royston towards Duxford on the A505 at about 8.55am when it was involved in a collision with a brown Volkswagen Caddy.

The 34-year-old was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, where he was in a critical condition. Police have now confirmed he died yesterday afternoon as a result of his injuries.

Police closed the stretch of the A505 – from the A10 roundabout to the junction for the M11 at Duxford – while emergency services attended and the road was cleared, it was reopened by 2.30pm.
