POLICE were called to the junction of the A10 and A505 Royston bypass today (Wednesday) after a lorry overturned and shed its load of scrap metal.
The accident happened just after 5am and the A505 remains closed between the Melbourn Road and the Tesco roundabout.
The lorry driver was uninjured.
Diversions through Royston are currently in place and police do not expect the road to re-open until at least 3pm.
Herts police said: "The reason for the delay is that overhead power cables are causing an obstruction for removal vehicles.
"The electricity needs to be shut off before any of the metal can be removed.
