London Marathon 2018: Runners from Royston to go the distance for good causes

Charitable members of the Royston community are gearing up to run the the London Marathon this weekend in aid of good causes.
Craig McMurrough from Royston is going the 26.2-mile distance in memory of his sister who died of cancer in June 2016.
The 47-year-old said: “I’m all set for the London Marathon on Sunday. I collected donations in Royston’s Tesco Extra last Sunday and had great support from people – including EastEnders legend Gillian Taylforth.
“I’m running two marathons this year – London and Berlin – the Yorkshire Half Marathon and the Great North Run. In July I’m climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, and in September I’m completing my first parachute jump all for Ovacome and Breast Cancer Now in memory of my sister Cheryl Earnshaw who died of ovarian cancer aged just 43.

Travel consultant Carrie Taylor, also from Royston, will be running in aid of Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust, which makes a difference to patients at Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie hospitals in Cambridge.
Carrie said: “ACT is a local charity and I’ve used the services of Addenbrooke’s and had all my children at the Rosie, so I really wanted to give something back.

Georgina Bowman from Royston is raising for the Outrigger Club UK – the UK’s largest outrigger canoe club – in memory of friend Tim Osbourne, who founded the charity in 2002 but sadly died last year.

Barley-based charity Khandel Light, which provides clean drinking water and support for families in India’s Rajasthan, has six runners in the London Marathon.
