Ever fancied owning a palace? Well, now’s chance after a former Royal hunting lodge was put up for sale for a cool £1.3million.
The 17th century Old Palace in Kneesworth Street, Royston – a grade two listed building - has been put on the up for sale by its current owners, and is being marketed by Cheffins estate agents.
It was the hunting lodge of King James I, who used it as his personal retreat when staying in Royston. The King enjoyed hunting on Therfield Heath.
Following his death in 1625, the lodge was used less frequently by his son, Charles I, and fell into disrepair before becoming a private residence.
In a statement, the owners of the palace said: “It’s been a joy to inhabit these historic rooms and tranquil gardens knowing we have been the custodians of a real piece of English history.”
