LING Dynamics is hoping to remain in Royston following a planning application to demolish its current plant. After it was revealed last week that planning applications to build on the Baldock Road site had been submitted to North Herts District Council, the company has been in talks to find new premises. A Ling Dynamics spokesperson said the company was in discussions with various agents regarding possible facilities in the Orchard Road area. "If possible Ling Dynamic Systems prefers to stay in Royston," she said. If the two planning applications to erect housing on the site are approved, the premises of one of Royston's longest-serving businesses will be demolished. One proposal - submitted by BBR Architects for developers Stephen Howard Homes - is to build 65 one and two-bedroom flats and 22 affordable homes on the site. The second application submitted by McCarthy & Stone is for a block of 63 sheltered apartments on the site. A spokesman from BBR Architects told The Crow that there had been a series of meetings with the district council about building on the site. A spokesperson for McCarthy & Stone said he believed demand for such accommodation was likely to "outweigh any objections". Mary Caldwell, the council's planning control and conservation manager, said the necessary paperwork covering the proposals had gone out to residents in the area. She said they were now in the position of "just waiting to see what comes back". Representations about the scheme have to be sent to the council by January 24. It will be discussed by Royston Town Council's planning committee and a decision will come from the district council's Royston area committee.
