THE COMPETITION is already hotting up in The Crow's £150 Christmas lights contest.
The Crow has teamed up with Enfield Electrical and Royston town centre management to offer prizes of £50 and £100 to the businesses who put together Royston's most original festive lights displays.
One firm that has already got involved is the Stationary Cupboard, in the High Street.
Owner Mike Gowen said: "Our lights went up in the window last week.
"We always have a display at around this time of year, it gives the shop a real festive feel and certainly adds some sparkle to the High Street."
Businesses wishing to enter still have time to collect their free Christmas lights from town centre manager Geraint Burnell and use them to create an eye-catching display on their premises.
However, to be considered for the competition lights must be up on display by the day of the Royston Christmas Carnival, on December 7.
Judging will take place after this date, with prizes being awarded for the most creative displays. Enfield Electrical, who have supplied all the Christmas lights used in Royston this year, have donated both cash prizes.
Mr Burnell told The Crow last week that so far there had been a "good uptake" of lights. However, he still has several sets available to businesses on a first come, first served basis.
He added: "Anyone who would like to enter this competition had better get their order in fast."
