PUPILS at Layston School in Buntingford learned about healthy eating. The school is working towards a healthy school accreditation and put on a series of activities for children. Head teacher Jane Sherwood said: "We see children's health as one of our primary roles so when they are older they will look after their bodies and hopefully eating healthier food will be second nature." Pupils drew pictures and wrote poems about fruit and vegetables. They were visited by the school cook who allowed them to try 20 kinds of different fruit. The week saw, too, the visit of Helen Morrison, school health nurse for the Royston, Buntingford and Bishop's Stortford Primary Care Trust. She gave a talk on achieveing a balanced diet. Mrs Sherwood said: "We are aiming to make schools a lot healthier and encouraging them to bring in a piece of fruit as a healthy snack.
