A COUPLE from Royston won the UK Kubb championships on Saturday (October 21).
Joe and Emma Daintrey won the ancient Scandanavian game at Bennington, battling it out against eight other teams including Phil and Pauline Rowe, also of Royston.
The game involves the players throwing wooden sticks at wooden blocks called kubbs.
Mr and Mrs Daintrey, of Field Crescent, have been mastering Kubb for the past four years after a trip to Denmark where Danish friends introduced them to the game.
Mrs Daintrey said: "The current UK Kubb team called Big Love did not take part in the championships but had they been there, it would have been even more interesting.
"It's all about being able to throw accurately and in a straight line."
