A CHARITY set up by Royston GP Dr Peter Gough is looking for a commitment from companies to help improve the lives of poverty-stricken villagers in drought-ridden Rajasthan in north-west India.
For seven years Khandel-light has relied on donations, but it is now hoping that corporate sponsorship from companies will lead to regular funding.
Dr Gough said: "We would like a kind of commitment of three to five years from companies to certain projects."
Money raised has enabled the building of houses and water tanks as well as health, employment and education problems being tackled.
However, projects such as supporting health workers and building toilets and water houses for a further 1,800 families still need funding.
"If we carried on giving the same amount as now it would take 47 years to achieve our target," said Dr Gough.
