FUN and games were the order of the day as teams went head-to-head in an It's a Knockout challenge.

And it was all in the name of charity.

Both adult and junior teams turned out for the event on Therfield Heath on Sunday - and helped raise more that £3,000 for the Marie Curie cancer charity.

Organiser Christine Brown said she hoped eventually the event would raise about £5,000.

She said: "It was all worthwhile and those taking part certainly seemed to enjoy themselves."

She said, however, that unlike last year's event there were no businesses taking part and the number of teams participating was less, too.

"It was a question of people getting together and making up a team," she said.

In the end the winners of the adult event - based on the BBC game of the 1960s - were from the Royston-based marching troupe, the Electralites.

And the junior contest was won by a team under the name of the Licorice Allsorts.

Each team were given about half-a-dozen silly games to play which either involved diving full-length along a soaked runway or jumping over various obstacles or attempting to walk in Wellington boots secured to a plank of wood.
